The town of Sioux Falls received its first railroad connection - a line between Sioux Falls and Worthington - today in 1878. Nine years later, construction gangs finished the fourth railway for the booming community. By 1890, Sioux Falls, which was becoming a transportation center and had grown to over 10,000 people, had bypassed Yankton as the state's largest community.
