Amateur fossil hunter Sue Hendrickson discovered the world's largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil on a ranch near Faith today in 1990. Ownership questions soon arose; the bones were found on tribal trust land held by the federal government. In 1992, federal agents seized "Sue," as the bones were nicknamed, stored her in a vault at the School of Mines and Technology and claimed her as government property. After a court battle, Sue was released to the private rancher, who auctioned her to the Chicago Field Museum for nearly $8.4 million.
