Lewis and Clark camped at the mouth of Swan Creek in Walworth County on this day in 1804. A journal entry describes their experience with an Indian camp near the Missouri River: "halted for dinner at a village which we suppose to have belonged to the Recorees; and consists of eighty lodges of an octagon form neatly covered with earth and placed as close to each other as possible. The skin canoes, mats, buckets and articles found in the lodges induce us to suppose that it had been left in the spring. We found three different sorts of squashes growing in the village."
