The Horse Estate
South Dakota, home to 70,000 horses, now has its first equestrian development property. The theory is kind of like building houses around a golf course; horse lovers can now buy properties near a world-class horse barn north of Yankton. While most of South Dakota's 70,000 horses are roaming the range in West River, if they're lucky they might one day end up at Dakota DeCaza Equestrian Estates, spending their winters in a spacious stall with country music softly playing on speakers in the rafters. The 41-stall barn features an indoor arena, heated wash racks, a shoeing area, large tack room and an owner's lounge with a fireplace and flatscreen TV. Mr. Ed would love it. The property's grand opening was Sunday, and the cars and trucks flowed continuously into the lot all afternoon. Darrel Vik from Beresford brought his Percheron horses and gave carriage rides.
