Badlands Artist
By John Andrews
In our January/February issue we featured the photography of Carl Johnson, who captured images of the Badlands in winter. Johnson is a professional photographer in Anchorage, Alaska, but he's a Rapid City native who has been exploring the Badlands all his life.
This week we learned he'll be the National Park Service's first Badlands artist-in-residence. He'll photograph the park's landscapes and wildlife through May 8 and visit the Interior school to discuss photography with students.
You can follow Johnson's time in the Badlands on his blog.

Amazing scenic work of those beautiful Badlands!
I love the POV he takes for many of his textures works and the lighting…I always found early morning or late evening sun to be the best for accentuating the beauty of the place..he nails it!
Wonderful Work!!
