On This Day
South Dakota writer John Milton was born on this day in 1924. Milton taught English at the University of South Dakota and wrote more about the state than any author before or since. His notable contributions include a history of the state, an anthology of state authors, a book of poems and a poem that he read at the memorial for Gov. George S. Mickelson. He was also the editor of South Dakota Review, a quarterly literary journal, for many years.
