Rapid City photographer Bill Groethe snapped his widely reproduced photo of the survivors of the Battle of the Little Big Horn today in 1948. Groethe met a few of the men that year at the dedication of Thunderhead Mountain, the site of the Crazy Horse Memorial. Later the group assembled in Custer State Park.

Summer’s not over yet, even though the kids are back in school. Take them to Huron for the State Fair (September 2-6). The carnival rides, midway food and games will be a nice break from the classroom, and parents can enjoy the 4-H and machinery exhibits and grandstand entertainment.
