American Indian Movement leaders and supporters moved onto National Forest Service land southwest of Rapid City today in 1981 in what they called the first step in reclaiming the Black Hills for the Lakota. They set up a community called Yellow Thunder Camp and activist Russell Means started a school. But after threats of government intervention, the camp disbanded in 1985.
