Motorcyclists Jack Hoel and Bill Erickson rode and pushed their bikes to the top of Bear Butte today in 1963. The 4,422-foot volcanic bubble in the northern Black Hills is sacred to the Lakota and today is a national monument. Traffic is forbidden but climbers are welcome.
