South Dakota Web Roundup

May 31, 2013

Summer's here! It's a great time to get out, get moving and enjoy a little outdoor fun, South Dakota style. Here's a few activities taking place this weekend.

  • The Black Hills Mud Run of Sturgis is filthy fun that raises funds for Diabetes, Incorporated.

  • One of the most popular organized hikes in the country, the Crazy Horse Volksmarch is a 10K hike up the world's largest mountain carving in progress.

  • Pierre's LaFramboise Island Mountain Bike Race is back after taking 2012 off due to flooding.

  • National Trails Day will be celebrated at state parks all over South Dakota. Check the Game Fish & Parks calendar of events to find a hike near you. Terry Sohl of Feathers and Folly recommends Newton Hills State Park near Canton for its bird variety. Jay Heath and Christian Begeman both recommend the history-laden trail up Spirit Mound in Clay County.
