WINNER! Whereizzit in South Dakota?

Aug 29, 2014

Thanks to everyone who participated in our September Whereizzit in South Dakota contest! This must've been an easy one — lots of people recognized the Sandhoff brothers' silo, located on Highway 37 between Dimock and Parkston.

We drew Marcia Grajkowske's name at random from the list of correct guesses, so she will be receiving an assortment of South Dakota Magazine products in the mail soon.

Watch for a new Whereizzit contest in our November/December issue!

The silo is 3/4 mile south of Dimock on Hwy 37. Originally the silo looked like a giant Pepsi can, later the word Pepsi was replaced with Sandhoff Bros. The story I heard was the Department of Transportation thought it was a traffic hazard; so the word Pepsi was removed to limit the distraction to drivers.

The silo is located on Highway 37 just to the north of 271st Street. At one time it said Pepsi. I heard that the advertising for Pepsi was to close to the road and had to be removed. Even though it was painted over and Sandoff Bros. was put on it, most people still know that it was a Pepsi advertisement.
