Five people, including PGA champion Payne Stewart, were killed when their Learjet slammed into a field near Mina west of Aberdeen today in 1999. An air pressurization failure incapacitated everyone on board after the plane left Orlando en route to Dallas. The plane veered 1,400 miles before crashing. Stewart won three major golf tournaments during his 20-year career, and was known for his eccentric knee-high socks and vintage beret.
