Here are some of our favorite photos from the latest issue of the magazine. What are yours?
-
"My favorite is the white-tail fawn on page 45," says Ruth Steil. "He/she’s so beautiful. His whiskers and eyelashes are amazing." Photo by Christian Begeman.
-
"I like Christian Begeman's photo from Lake Hiddenwood," says Rebecca Johnson, Special Projects Coordinator. "I love South Dakota's water recreation. This photo captures so much fun."
-
Roger Holtzmann, Contributing Editor, chose this photo of Clyde Ice. "You gotta love an old guy and his pickup. Clyde doesn't seem at all comfortable having his picture taken, so I can imagine him saying, 'Okay, let's get this done. I'll just stand here.'"
-
Andrea Maibaum, Production Manager, chose this sunset over Big Stone Lake in Hartford Beach State Park. Photo by Christian Begeman.
-
"My favorite is Christian's photo of the dung beetle being pulled in all different directions by thatching ants," says Laura Andrews, Assistant Marketing Director. "How many of us can relate to this photo? Luckily for us humans, our troubles rarely gang up on us, spray us with formic acid, then dismember and consume us."
-
Circulation Director Jana Lane chose this photo of Albert Afraid of Hawk. The warrior-showman's remains were brought home to Pine Ridge many years after his tour with Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show.
-
"The Fort Randall cemetery from the skies is too amazing to pass up," says Heidi Marsh, Advertising & Marketing Director. Photo by Sam Stukel.
-
Renee Becker, Subscription Department, chose this photo from Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show. "After 30 years of shows I wondered how many photos were taken of the group. It's Interesting to read and imagine what these people sacrificed to tour for so long."
-
"Stu Surma's photo of the Hoover Store gives a feeling of community in the sparse and lovely Butte County," says Katie Hunhoff, Editor. "The store provides necessities like eggs, milk and beer but is also a gathering place for farmers and ranchers."
-
"I'll pick the Dave Tunge water skiing photo on page 20," says Managing Editor John Andrews. "It was long before my time in Yankton, but listening to everyone around here talk about it makes me wish I had been here to see it."
