Here are some of our favorite photos from the latest issue of the magazine. What are yours?
-
Production Manager Andrea Maibaum chose Sam Stukel’s photo of Goat Island near Meckling.

“My favorite is Christian Begeman’s picture of the snapping turtle,” says Bernie Hunhoff, editor-at-large. “We feared snappers as kids at the little lake by our farm, and the more you learn about them the more interesting they seem. The eyeball to eyeball shot by Christian is not a view I’d seen before.” John Andrews, managing editor, chose Begeman's photo, as well.
-
Emily VanDerhule, circulation, chose Bernie Hunhoff’s photo of St. Martin’s Church in Oelrichs. “The contrast of the sky, the angle of the camera, the crusty looking tree – it’s very October-esque and a little spooky.”
-
“Kadek Susanto's photo of the Canada goose griping at her gosling is adorable,” says Heidi Marsh, publisher. “Sometimes, as a mom, I can relate.”
-
Assistant Marketing Director Laura Andrews chose Katie Hunhoff’s photo of Manolis Grocery in Huron. “It looks like my kind of place,” Andrews says.
-
Contributing Editor Paul Higbee and Circulations Assistant Renee Becker chose Harlan Humphrey’s photo of baby bighorn sheep in the Badlands. “I love the sense of motion, and how the surefooted sheep seem to have no fear – or even awareness – of gravity,” Higbee says.
-
Special Projects Coordinator Rebecca Johnson chose this photo of Family Camp at Milk’s Camp. “I just loved reading about the strong female leadership at this camp and all they were doing to teach and preserve their culture,” Johnson says. Photo by Bernie Hunhoff.

“I love the kids dancing in front of the band shell in Huron’s Campbell Park,” says Contributing Editor Roger Holtzmann. “Ah, to be young and carefree!” Photo by Katie Hunhoff.
