Five disgruntled farmers protested the Eisenhower administration's farm policy by throwing eggs at Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson before he spoke at the state corn-picking contest south of Sioux Falls today in 1957. The South Dakota Farmers Union president berated the men and Benson called the action "un-American." The egg-throwers each received a $50 fine.
