On this day in 1989, Mobridge was inundated with tons of tumbleweeds. A bumper crop of Russian thistles grew along the Missouri River shoreline that dry year. High winds shook thousands of weeds loose and they rolled into the Walworth County town, blocking roads and burying homes.
